Job Description
About the Assignment: The Basic Correctional Officer Training ( BCOT ) Instructor will assist with teaching the BCOT -020 Basic Juvenile Probation Corrections Officer Training course. Adjunct faculty will be assigned to teach content related to the course including criminal justice system and process, legal foundations and liability, communication, and physical conditioning as well as other fundamental concepts. Adjunct faculty are expected to train and develop students seeking an entry-level career in Probation and Corrections working with juveniles. Adjunct faculty should have experience working in corrections, supervising detainees, preparing, and completing observation reports on detainees, behavior, appearance, interests, skills, progress, and needs. Adjunct faculty should develop student’s knowledge of deescalating detainees using defense tactics and/ or the use of handcuffs, personal body weapons, use of body restraints and restraint wraps, and physical conditioning. Certificate in First Aid/ CPR , Defensive Tactics, and physical training are highly desired. Basic Function: Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the adjunct instructor to participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses, and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the vision, mission, and values of the community college district. Working Conditions: Classroom environment and unassigned faculty office environment. Classes may be at the Palm Desert Campus or one of our sites in Indio, Mecca/Thermal, Desert Hot Springs, or Palm Springs. Classes may be scheduled during the day, evening or weekends. Part-time faculty assignments are filled on an as needed basis utilizing this open and ongoing applicant pool. The number of available openings will vary from semester to semester. Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience in the discipline. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. FOREIGN EQUIVALENCY EVALUATIONS : Degrees earned outside of the U.S. require that a Foreign Equivalency Evaluation be uploaded in addition to the foreign transcripts.
