What We're Doing
The Strategic Product and Initiatives (SP&I) Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) team is enabling and implementing AI/ML and data analytics solutions through research and development across Lockheed Martin's Training and Logistics Solutions (TLS) market segment.


The Work
We are looking for an AI/ML Engineer with extensive related experience (7+ years) to work a hybrid schedule (mix of on-site and remote work) based out of Orlando, FL to drive research and development efforts across the Training and Logistics domains.

As a key member of our AI/ML team, you will:
β€’ Serve as the algorithm expert with continuous up-to-date knowledge on modern AI/ML research
β€’ Contribute as a key member in the end-to-end development process, with a focus on transitioning AI/ML capabilities from Research and Development (R&D) into operational environments
β€’ Support identification, assessment, and capture of new project opportunities by evaluating feasibility, return on investment (ROI), and potential barriers to implementation
β€’ Assume sporadic technical leadership responsibilities, ensure standard and optimal methodologies, take ownership of critical tasks, and mentor junior engineers
β€’ Strategize, architect, and author contract/proposal processes for internal R&D and formal production programs
β€’ Focus on development of technologies that enable AI/ML within the Training and Logistics domains
β€’ Optimize the performance of AI/ML algorithms, applications, and platforms
β€’ Develop and document implementation requirements
β€’ Interface with other multi-disciplinary teams involved in the development lifecycle
β€’ Support a minimum of 25% on-site work based in Orlando, FL

Basic Qualifications
β€’ 7+ years of AI/ML related professional experience or equivalent related experience and education

β€’ Experience with application of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles

β€’ Experience with Python, C++, and object-oriented development

β€’ Experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning

β€’ Experience in architecting, developing, fine-tuning, and deploying generative AI models (such as LLMs) and other advanced AI/ML models

β€’ Experience with multiple technologies including PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, and/or sci-kit learn

β€’ Experience with Supervised Learning and/or Reinforcement Learning

β€’ Experience with agile development practices and mentoring individuals

β€’ Ability to obtain DoD or program clearance as required

β€’ BS in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science/Engineering, Math, Physics, or related discipline with course work in AI/ML

Desired skills
β€’ Expert experience building advanced Large Language models (LLMs) and/or Generative AI workflows such as retrieval augmented generation, model chaining, dynamic prompting, PEFT/SFT, etc. using LangChain, transformers, vLLM, etc.

β€’ Experience training and evaluating Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs/LSTMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), signal processing, multi-agent systems, manned-unmanned teaming, etc.

β€’ Experience with pathfinding, AI movement and behaviors, and solving complex vehicle AI navigation/route planning/etc.

β€’ Experience with quaternions, processing IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), and GPS data

β€’ Experience optimizing AI models for and deploying to embedded hardware

β€’ Demonstrated successful application of AI/ML in various areas (sensors and signals, time series data, computer vision, supply chain, etc.)

β€’ Demonstrated project management skills

β€’ MS in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science/Engineering, Math, Physics, or related discipline with a focus/thesis in AI/ML

Ability to work remotely
Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedule Information
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Washington or Washington DC is $123,200 - $236,100. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California and New York is $141,700 - $267,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
