Job Description

The School of Professional Studies M.S. in Political Analytics program is seeking industry professional with experience in political science and data analytics to serve as part-time Course Associates for graduate-level courses in Political Analytics. An Associate is a faculty line junior to a Lecturer who provides subject matter expertise and supports the instructional process for a course section. Serving as an Associate is an outstanding way to gain exposure to graduate-level teaching at Columbia University. (5 open positions)

The Political Analytics program is designed to train a new generation of students for impactful careers in politics and advocacy through strong data analytics. Our program combines a focus on the substance of politics with advanced quantitative methods so students will have the data skills to drive decision-making, communicate effectively about data and politics, and be leaders among professionals. The program provides quantitative skills in an explicitly political context, which will position graduates to build their careers in this growing field and become decision-makers themselves.

Responsibilities

The Course Associate supports the instructional faculty in implementing all aspects of in-person and/or online learning and is expected to assist in developing instructional resources, implementation strategies, and support on technology best practices.

  • Attend all class sessions, assist with instruction, lead breakout sessions, facilitate discussions.
  • Evaluate, grade student work and assessments as requested by the course Lecturer.
  • Monitor and address student concerns and inquiries.
  • Maintain online resources for the instructional faculty to support teaching and learning, such as Zoom and Canvas, as determined by the instructional faculty.
  • Conduct weekly office hours.

Qualifications

Columbia University SPS operates under a scholar-practitioner faculty model, which enables students to learn from faculty that have outstanding academic training as well as a record of accomplishment as practitioners in an applied industry setting. 

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in an area related to political science, data science, quantitative methods or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in a role involving political analytics.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • University teaching experience.

Additional Information

Salary:

$3,343.74 per semester-length course
