We are seeking an experienced and driven Data Science Manager to lead our Data Science team. You will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of data science solutions across our Underwriting and Claims departments. This includes identifying opportunities to leverage data for improved decision-making, managing the procurement and utilization of data resources, and leading a team of talented data scientists & analysts.

In this role, you will…

Team Leadership & Management:

  • Guide and mentor a team of data scientists & analysts, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Align team goals with stakeholder objectives, ensuring projects deliver tangible business value.
  • Provide technical guidance and code review to maintain high standards of work.
  • Monitor progress on projects, identify roadblocks, and implement solutions to ensure timely delivery.
  • Oversee the hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of team members.

Data Science Project Management:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of data science projects, from conception and problem formulation to model development, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to define business problems and translate them into analytical frameworks.
  • Ensure rigorous data due diligence is performed in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Guide model development, emphasizing both predictive accuracy and interpretability.
  • Oversee the deployment of models into production, collaborating with the infrastructure team to ensure optimal performance and adherence to business rules.
  • Implement robust model monitoring and maintenance processes to ensure continued accuracy and relevance.

Data Acquisition & Resource Management:

  • Identify and evaluate potential third-party data vendors to fulfill business needs.
  • Cultivate relationships with existing vendors and manage contractual agreements.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in data science techniques and technologies.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of internal data assets and identify areas for improvement.
  • Advocate for and procure necessary computational resources, including hardware and software.

Internal Collaboration & Communication:

  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with various internal teams, including Underwriting, Claims, Legal, and IT.
  • Provide internal technical consulting on mathematical and computational matters.
  • Stay abreast of relevant industry regulations and ensure compliance with internal governance policies.

We are looking for candidates with…

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science or comparable field of study with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree or PhD in a related field is a plus.
  • 2+ years of proven experience leading and managing a team of data scientists & analysts.
  • Strong track record of successfully delivering end-to-end data science solutions with demonstrable business impact.
  • Expertise in various machine learning techniques and their application to real-world problems.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, and familiarity with relevant data science libraries.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven time management skills with ability to work in a fast-paced environment across multiple priorities
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach.

Experience with the following is a plus:

  • Insurance industry experience, particularly in underwriting or claims.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

General:Β MedPro Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.Β The annual gross base salary range is $108,000 to $148,000.Β  This range anticipates the low and high end of the salary for this position.
