Are you an experienced editor with a passion for everything tech related?

HowToGeek.com is looking for an experienced Linux Section EditorΒ to join their team!

About Us

How-To Geek is an online technology publication with tens of millions of readers each month. Our readers love How-To Geek because of its unique voice. We’re not a website for geeksβ€”we are the geeks.Β

We’re the people you turn to when your computer isn’t working right, you need to do something technical, or you want to understand the latest gadgetsβ€”and which are the best ones to buy. We explain it all in simple, approachable terms. How-To Geek is for everyone.

Our target audience are everyday consumers who are interested in tech; we write for the lay-people, not industry insiders. For example, our readers are the "Should You Upgrade to a Wi-Fi 7 Router?" crowd. Not the "Wi-Fi 7 Routers Will Usher In the IoT Market Penetration Shift" crowd.

Our Linux Specialists are everyday Linux users with in-depth knowledge on the ins and outs of the system.

Below are some examples of what we cover in the Linux section:

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for editing, fact-checking, and providing feedback on articles to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to editorial guidelines.
  • Monitor the article schedule using tools such as Asana or our in-house CMS to ensure that publication targets are met.
  • Review (and assist in crafting) pitches to the Linux section for quality and suitability.
  • Contribute to the development of SEO researched ideas, and generate Linux topics for the writer base.
  • Review and assess due dates associated with tasks.
  • Self-publish to the section (or other sections on the site) to meet the writing quota.
  • Expected to be present and engaged in required meetings.

What we're looking for:
  • Experience in writing and editing for an online tech publication
  • Expert knowledge of everything Linux
  • First-hand experience with a Linux distribution (and able to run multiple distributions, as virtual machines at least, for testing)
  • Be highly organized with great time management skills
  • Posses proficient communication skills with remote teams

Application Requirements
  • CV, Cover Letter, Screening Questions

In your Cover Letter, please address the following questions:
    - What makes you the right fit for this role? (You can touch upon previous experience and your passion for Linux)
We will get back to you as soon as possible if we think you'd make a solid addition to the team.Β
