Responsibilities






Β 

We are currently seeking a Linux System Administrator in support of the IRS MIDS contract.Β  This position will handle a variety of responsibilities including configuring, monitoring, and maintaining Linux operating systems.Β  Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring that all servers operate at optimum levels.Β  The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.Β  Should be comfortable working in a team environment and willing to work flexible hours.Β Β  On-call and after-hours support is a requirement of this position.Β

What you will do:

  • Applies technical knowledge to assist clients in the design and development of solutions to complex technical engineering and applications problems, network challenges, or system administration issues.Β 
  • Establishes the basic structure of the system, defines essential core design features and elements that provide the framework.
  • Incorporates engineering strategies for introducing new technology into the customer's infrastructure related to its business processes of collection, analysis, production, and dissemination.
  • Performs cost-benefit analyses to determine whether requirements are best met by manual, software, or hardware functions
  • Making maximum use of commercial off-the-shelf or already developed components.
  • Applies knowledge of enterprise IT or engineering needs to design improved processes, generate valid requirements, and ensures that these are consistent with the customer's enterprise technical architecture.
  • May participate in business development activities.
  • Responsible for initial design and development of new systems or extensive systems revisions to support the total requirements as well as provide for present and future cross-functional requirements
  • Ensures these systems are compatible and in compliance with the standards for agency IT architectures, and profiles of standards as they apply to the implementation and specific to the solution for the platform, integration with other systems
  • Ensures that the common operating environment is compliant.
  • Evaluates analytically and systematically problems of workflows, organization and planning and develops appropriate corrective action
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.Β  Β Β

Qualifications






Required Qualifications:

  • 5 years with BS/BA.Β  Additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the degree
  • 5+ years Linux Administration experience
  • 2+ years patch and vulnerability management
  • Experience in large scale Production Support Server Environment
    • Handling Data Center Operations with Business & Mission Critical Applications
    • Handling escalated incidents or high critical tickets
    • Predicting Risk/Impact and Participating in Major Changes
    • Reporting & Performance Dashboards with Capacity Planning
    • Vendor Management
    • Technical Transition & Documentation skills
    • Design, migration and upgrading of existing infrastructure
  • High level understanding of risks created by vulnerabilities
  • High level of understanding RHEL satellite server management
  • Experience managing and deploying Gold Images
  • High level of experience with RHEL patching processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of process to rollback patches as needed
  • Ability to follow standard work and produce appropriate documentation
  • At least 1 year of experience implementing Hardened Baseline Configuration standards and STIG controls
  • High level understanding of risks associated with controls like CIS
  • Able to independently troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to assist in audit data gathering
  • Familiarity with different hardware configurations a plus. e.g. 3-tier, hyper-converged.
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required agency clearance

  • Proficient in Ansible automation code
  • Cloud computing experience and knowledge
  • Experience with PowerShell
  • Experience with Service Now
  • Experience with VCF
  • Experience with HPE DL class Gen10 + Β Servers
  • Experience with VMWare/VMWare Cloud Foundation

$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
