Assistant Professor - Clinical Application for the Basic Sciences


To help support the work of Chatham University we have an immediate opening for a Visiting or Assistant Professor in the Physician Assistant (PA) Studies Program. The rank of Assistant Professor is a tenure-track position. The rank of Visiting Professor is a 1-year position. Preference given to the rank of Assistant Professor.


The position, under the supervision of the Program Director (PD), is responsible for providing classroom instruction in human gross anatomy, human physiology, pathophysiology, and the clinical presentation of disease processes as it relates to each. The position also has the responsibility of performing human cadaver dissection as preparation for the human gross anatomy lab. This is a full-time, 9-month faculty position housed solely within the PA program and is responsible for all duties outlined in the Chatham University Faculty Manual. A faculty load of 21 credits will be assigned in alignment of the Chatham University Faculty Manual.


Opportunities for adjunct teaching in the Summer are available depending on faculty credentials.


This position requires the applicant to be prepared to begin teaching for the start of the Fall 2024 term with a hiring date of August 1, 2024.


Responsibilities:



  • Instructional Responsibilities

  • Provides classroom instruction in human gross anatomy with lab, human physiology, and pathophysiology as directed by the PD.

  • Performs human cadaver dissection as preparation for human gross anatomy lab (Prosection lab).

  • Assists in the development, evaluation, and revision of the didactic and laboratory curricula.

  • Assists in the development of courses' syllabi, objectives, and outlines.

  • Participates in the review, recommendation, and procurement of instructional materials.




Professional Responsibilities:



  • Provides academic advising for PA program students.

  • Maintains a research agenda that leads to invited or peer-reviewed lectures and publications as outlined in the Faculty Manual.

  • Demonstrates service to the university, PA program, profession, and students as defined in the Faculty Manual.

  • Participates in the recruitment of new students as directed by the PD.

  • Actively pursues continuing education activities for maintaining professional qualifications.





Qualifications:



  • Credentials as physician assistant with a minimum of master's degree and NCCPA certification is strongly preferred; for non-PA's other related and relevant qualifications are considered.

  • Prior higher education teaching experience is strongly preferred.


  • Dissection experience is preferred.
