The East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) is a public Career and Technical Education District (CTED) providing tuition-free career and technical education (CTE) programs to high school students – public, charter, and home-schooled – and tuition-based programs to adults who reside in 11 school districts in the East Valley of the Phoenix metropolitan area.
EVIT offers over 50 CTE programs at four centralized campuses. Centralized campus programs provide two to four hours of hands-on training every day and prepare students for professional certification and licensing exams. EVIT students who complete their training have a 98 percent high school graduation rate and 90 percent on average are in jobs related to their training, college or the military within a year. Two out of three EVIT students go on to college.
Applications are being accepted for the position of Adult Basic Education Tutor at the East Valley Institute of Technology Main Street campus.This is a 10-month, part-time, position. The hourly salary is $23.00.
Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, the Adult Basic Education Tutor will help teach academic subjects such as: English, Mathematics, Science, and History to adult age students. The Adult Basic Education Tutor will meet regularly with students who need help academically and help the students improve their: study skills, organizational skills, test taking skills, note taking skills and time management skills. This position may teach in a classroom setting, study room, library, online or a hybrid setting. The ultimate goal of the tutor is to help improve the student’s improve their academic success and help them reach their full potential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Prints (IVP) fingerprint card. Applicable Arizona Statutes pursuant to Title 15 (Education) and Title 13 (Criminal) and Title 38 (Public Officers and Employees) prevail.
- Proof of immunization against or immunity to measles and rubella if born after January 1, 1957.
- High School Diploma Education or equivalent.
- Strong passion for helping others.
- Experience tutoring/mentoring adults who are academically challenged and/or at-risk learners.
- Foster and/or HSE/GED background
