Job Summary






Artemis is seeking a part-time ArcGIS Specialist with a deep understanding of digital content, website development best practices and Section 508 compliance. The ArcGIS specialist will have demonstrated experience designing websites and web pages that are visually appealing, available across a variety of platforms and compliant with federal accessibility regulations.

The ArcGiS role requires a self-starter, proactive problem solver and action-oriented team player with previous experience in management consulting. This position needs an individual that is committed to providing superior service, poised under pressure and has a positive and flexible attitude.

Primary Responsibilities






  • Use ArcGIS to develop comprehensive story maps that help readers digest complex scientific information quickly and effectively.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on ArcGIS to help the project team translate complex scientific messaging into visually appealing content web content that is easy to read, understand and use.
  • Assist in the planning, generation and delivery of client-ready materials for stakeholders, including client leadership.
  • Work with project team to create story-driven narratives using visual elements that form the foundation of digital outreach campaigns.
  • Recommend creative concept and new approaches for communication activities that incorporate leading best practices and methodologies.
  • Review products for Section 508 compliance and adherence to client branding guidelines.
  • Check websites for and resolve broken links, typos, non-compliant content and other errors.
  • Add or adjust elements to better target information to specific audiences.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve errors with story maps.








Minimum Qualifications






  • 6 years of experience in a strategic role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Demonstrated experience synthesizing research findings into appealing visuals for a variety of audiences such as managers, non-governmental organizations, research clients, policy makers and the public.
  • Strong programming skills in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience with Python scripting for ArcGIS (e.g., ArcPy).
  • Familiarity with spatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML, and raster data), standards and projections.
  • Experience with database management systems such as SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with wildland fire and wildland fire science preferred.
  • Strategic thinker with a forward-looking approach to marketing trends and technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Experience supporting complex projects and transformation efforts within the federal government.
  • Comfortability with supporting complex client relationships.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
