Position Summary

The Federal Work Study position is a part-time, student worker opportunity with National University.  This position is designed to provide exposure to a variety of security tasks that one should expect a junior or entry-level security analyst to perform. These include SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tool usage, auditing, policy maintenance, penetration testing, virus/malware remediation, and general tasks of the security operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Respond to Cyber Security requests and direct inquires to appropriate department or person.
  • Develop skills and learn procedures to effectively identify, detect, contain, eradicate, recover, and document cyber incidents in an enterprise environment to effectively defend against cyber threats.
  • Learn about malware and cyber threat hunting, security analytic tool best practices, vulnerability scanning and reporting.
  • Learn how to perform risk assessments against policies and standards to document risk and threats.
  • Utilize a vast array of security tools and resources to locate cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Engage with technology owners to promote best practices in network and software security.
  • Participate in the vulnerability management lifecycle, assisting with the assessment and reporting of vulnerabilities identified in the environment using the latest Vulnerability Management scanning and detection tools.
  • Work with a team of people with a cyber security focus, provide regular executive level updates, and contribute to team success with ongoing tracking and implementation of projects.
  • Participate in planning and executing a wide range of awareness events, projects, and efforts to promote best practices and good cyber-hygiene.
  • Provide support for the development, implementation, and maintenance of information security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate proof of security controls during internal and external audits.
  • Provide an exceptional level of customer service and support to all business units and other internal and external contacts and respond in a timely manner to customer service feedback.
  • Internship security project (will vary by semester and candidate’s skillset).
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Must be a current National University student who has completed a current FAFSA
  • Ability to work up to 20 hours per week Monday-Friday: Hours
  • Enrollment in a relevant academic program Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology

Technical / Functional Skills: 

  • Great verbal and written communication skills, with experience using Microsoft Office Suite & Outlook.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to complete projects in a timely manner.

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies.  Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position. The minimum salary will be offered based on the minimum exemption threshold based on state of residency. Compensation Range:

: $17.00 - $19.00
