About Short Story:

Short Story is a fast-growing startup creating the premier personal styling service for petite women.. We are looking for talented and experienced Full Stack Engineers to join our engineering team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing, developing, and maintaining our systems to ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability. Some key areas for development include:

  • Customer Portal

  • Warehouse and fulfillment management systems

  • Internal Styling tooling

  • Order management and billing systems

  • Data integration with 3rd party physical services vendors (eg. shipping)

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications using our tech stack: NextJS, ReactJS, Typescript, Python, Falcon, and Postgres.

  • Build entire projects end-to-end, from understanding the problem context to designing and implementing solutions, and finally rolling out and monitoring for impact.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship for frontend development, serving as the in-house expert on best practices.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and other engineers, to deliver high-quality features and improvements.

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code using tools like Cypress, Jest, and Pytest.

  • Optimize application performance and scalability, ensuring a smooth user experience.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, and propose new ideas to improve our platform.

What We Are Looking For:

  • 3+ years of experience in full-stack web development, with a strong focus on frontend technologies like NextJS, ReactJS, and Typescript.

  • Proficiency in Python and experience with backend frameworks like Falcon and ORMs like SQLAlchemy.

  • Solid understanding of relational database systems, particularly Postgres.

  • Experience with testing frameworks such as Cypress, Jest, and Pytest.

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including Github Actions, Git, Netlify, AWS, Heroku, and Cloudflare.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex problems into manageable tasks.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Passion for mentoring and sharing knowledge with junior developers and interns.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Tailwind CSS or similar utility-first CSS frameworks.

  • Knowledge of serverless architectures and their implementation on platforms like AWS or Heroku.

  • Contributions to open-source projects or personal projects showcasing your skills.
