Responsibilities

  • Provide hourly support with patching, configuring, and maintaining systems, manually or by using automated tools in accordance with VA Regulations, Organizational directives, handbooks, Policies and proceduresΒ 
  • Work with ServiceNow (SNOW) and the Service Desk Manager automated tool, to assign and work incident tickets
  • Monitor the Incident Que and Triage emails or problems submitted by customers, reviews system configuration, implementation plans, oversees and provide support for provisioning, configuration management, virtual machine administration, directory services, volume management, system monitoring on both Linux Systems and Servers, addressing after core hour system outages, and other OS related processes and procedures
  • serve as part of the technical team of Linux/Unix System Administrators (SA) who oversees, manage and assists in the installation and integration of servers, applications and services in support of over 250 applications
  • Apply vulnerability mitigation strategies, systems fixes, updates, and enhancements; troubleshooting failed environments, create servers and assigning storage shares
  • Maintain operating system shell scripts to ensure various reports, required for CRISP Reporting, as well as Security requested information
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to set/adjust schedules for after hour patching, as well as assisting with systems hardware/software acquisitions and maintenance
  • Support Linux/Unix Divisional Operations using automation tools, provisioning, virtualization, configuration management, security, clustering, backups, networking, disaster recovery, volume management, file system management, storage management, as well as disk and network I/O requirements

Qualifications

  • Must have experience with Linux/Unix
  • Experience creating plans to assure effective management, operations, and maintenance of systems and/or networks
  • Experience with planning activities to include complex systems involving interagency coordination
  • Experience with ServiceNow (SNOW) and the Service Desk Manager
  • Experience patching Linux/Unix
  • Experience troubleshooting Incident Que and Triage emails and fix customers issues
  • Must be capable working independently and/or with other services line and technology leads on assigned tasks

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, systems, business, or related scientific /technical discipline and 5+ years’ work experience
  • Eight (8) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education (13 years total)

  • The ability to pass a Tier 4/HIGH Background Investigation
