The Research Director, Cybersecurity drives research, provides thought leadership and advises clients about the cybersecurity market and its vendors. An individual well suited for this position would be familiar with topics such cybersecurity, data security, network security, endpoint security, identity management, managed detection &response., and governance, risk & compliance.

Responsibilities






Β 

  • Serves as IDC’s subject matter expert on cybersecurity market development, forecasting and vendor strategies
  • Provides leadership thinking around how the industry is shifting, and what the impacts of these shifts mean both to enterprise end user organizations and to the vendors delivering IT/cybersecurity software and infrastructure products and technologies.
  • Develops and/or customizes research and consulting projects to meet the specific needs of the external customers. Consulting projects can come in the form of customized surveys, white papers, webcasts, on-site strategy sessions, customized forecasts, videos or presentations at events.
  • Both verbal and written analysis is key to being a successful analyst at IDC. This position carries the expectation for a mix of shorter industry-event reactive pieces, vendor market share document, market forecast analysis and thought leadership documents that provide deeper insight into the changing nature of the market. The ability to build relationships with vendors and to proactively reach out to industry representatives is critical. Simply put, the analyst will evangelize Trust.
  • Utilizes existing and new relationships, in conjunction with technical and market knowledge, to develop and grow business relationships to drive market presence. Proactively develops relationships with internal IDC sales teams and acts as advocate for the research service and custom consulting projects as a subject matter expert during sales calls. Key attributes of a successful candidate include:
    • Product evangelist.
    • Identify market opportunities.
    • Collaborate with marketing and sales.
    • Revenue growth through other types of revenue (honorarium, report sales, consulting)
    • Contribution to the financial success of the group.
    • Expense management.
    • Demonstrates ability to develop new products.
    • Ability to travel approximately 25-30%. Travel varies considerably, but heaviest travel periods will be between March and July, then again in September and October.








Qualifications






  • Bachelors Degree.
  • Successful candidate will have prior experience and knowledge of cybersecurity markets.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in this space; able to communicate the importance of new ideas and trends in cybersecurity to engage both senior level officials, executive management, and relevant partners.
  • 10+ years of related work experience in the field as an analyst and/ or in a related cybersecurity field, or with similar areas and levels of responsibility in the technology industry working with cybersecurity customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite of products is a must.
