Purpose of the Position:

Β 

The Senior Director, Programs and Academic Affairs is a senior leader in the Education Department for UMA’s online campus, with responsibility for partnering with the Vice President, Programs and Academic Affairs with both strategic and operational leadership of online campus programs.Β  This will be accomplished through analysis of program effectiveness and innovation for continuous improvement of student outcomes, instruction, tools and strategies, and the overall quality of educational programming. The Senior Director will oversee faculty and staff development initiatives within the Education team with the goal of continuing to enrich the learner experience and bolster student outcomes.Β  An expert in creative strategies to support the learning needs of non-traditional adult students, the Senior Director challenges the status quo and leads team members and initiatives in a culture of care, quality, and engagement, with an eye on advancements and technologies that accelerate learning and propel student career preparedness.

The Senior Director, Programs and Academic Affairs reports to the VP of Programs and Academic Affairs

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.Β 

  • Anticipated salary of $140,000; pay rate negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Β 

Strategic and Operational Leadership of the Online Campus Programs:

  • Partnering with VP of Program and Academic Affairs to determine new program, program expansion, and program enhancement strategies.
  • Developing and executing online education initiatives.
  • Ensuring regular opportunities for programmatic leadership and faculty to provide feedback and recommendations for effective curriculum and programs.
  • Recommending refinement of administrative and operational practices for continued improvement in both student and faculty performance.
  • Partnering with the online departmental leadership to develop and execute on plans for student academic success, including metrics for evaluation of outcomes.
  • Recruiting, developing and inspiring program leadership, online faculty and Program Affairs.

Faculty leadership and development, including:

  • Partnering with senior academic leaders to provide comprehensive support and a development ecosystem to support faculty engagement.
  • Supporting the academic governance processes in compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Ensuring regular assessments of online faculty teaching abilities, recommending opportunities for improvement, and leading a rigorous
    performance management program.
  • Demonstrating commitment to their own personal development through traveling to conferences and proactively identifying professional development activities to bring new concepts/approaches back to the team.

Leadership for Ultimate Medical Academy's learning outcomes:

  • Supporting the process of defining and continuously refining course specific vision and strategy for instructional design.
  • Building a strategy and processes for the student learning journey that support superior learning outcomes and an exceptional educational experience.
  • Serving as educational liaison to support services (Learner Services, Admissions, Student Finance, Career Services, etc.).

Leadership to achieve annual goals for student outcomes and meet compliance requirements:

  • Demonstrating knowledge of, and carefully following all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those
    prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, Florida’s Commission for Independent Education, and internal UMA policies and procedures.Β 
  • Effectively communicating compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalating any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state and national accrediting body rules, regulations and policies.
  • Ensuring adherence to institutional academic policies and procedure.
  • Collaborating with online management team to achieve desired organizational results in areas of student satisfaction, student retention and
    placement, graduation rates and satisfactory academic progress.
  • Keeping abreast of policies, issues, and laws affecting online learning.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in navigating online learning systems – SIS, Data and Reporting, LMS, and other tools and systems that are part of the UMA ecosystem.
  • Ability to accurate analyze available data for planning and problem-solving.

Financial Leadership

  • Supports the planning, preparation, control, and monitoring of the Business Units’ direct and/or indirect budgets.
  • Support the execution of objectives and tasks necessary to meet short and long-term revenue and margin goals.

Team Member Leadership

  • Build a strong culture of care, accountability, and high performance.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top performers.
  • Create and implement an effective onboarding plan for every team member.
  • Recruit, train and develop a team with skills and experience aligned to meet UMA’s needs and the market with a focus on retention of top performers.
  • Set clear expectations for all Team Members. Analyze goals, activities and results to determine action plans to improve individual and team performance per stated performance management guidelines.
  • Ensure that UMA values are being demonstrated and policies are being followed.

Support Institutional Initiatives

  • Keep current on institutional goals, objectives, and progress.
  • Participate in workforce transformation strategy conversations as requested.
  • Engage in institutional sponsored activities and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Lead with courage in support of change initiatives that impact organization.
  • Manage and assists in coordinating efforts between departments within UMA.

Compliance:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:

Β 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree with an education focus combined with business work experience, or a master’s degree with a business focus combined with education work experience, or a related combination.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working in education or training.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership role.
  • Ability to proactively identify trends and create & implement new processes to support constant and iterative improvement.
  • Strong operational orientation to leadership experience/style.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative with ability to build strong working relationships within a department and cross-functionally.
  • Able to professionally communicate in verbal and written English.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Skype and Microsoft Teams.
  • Able to support a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience leading educational programs serving non-traditional student populations.
  • Experience leading online learning programs.
  • Experience leading in for-profit or not for profit educational organizations.

Working Environment:

  • Home Office.
  • Occasional travel for conferences and team meetings.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires occasional bending, stooping and squatting.
