Job Summary:

System Administrator will deliver state-of-the-art system administration solutions and support for both Government-off-the-shelf (GOTS) and Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) applications across various hardware and software platforms. This role encompasses the management of application servers, web servers, print servers, virtual file servers, and reporting tools, focusing on performance, backup/recovery, and operational efficiency.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • System Administration:
    • Install, maintain, configure, and optimize PC and Network Operating Systems, including Microsoft Windows, UNIX, Linux, Cloud Computing environments, and VMware server OS.
    • Provide comprehensive technical support, analysis, data management, and server management to sustain operational computing environments.
  • Documentation and Standard Operating Procedures:
    • Develop and maintain a System Administration SOP, outlining processes for data storage, backup/recovery, server upgrades, and routine maintenance.
    • Keep abreast of state-of-the-art hardware, software, and solutions to provide innovative recommendations.
  • Operating System Management:
    • Manage UNIX, Linux, Solaris, Windows, VMware, and other operating systems within WBAMC.
    • Ensure systems are online and available, and address backup and contingency issues proactively.
  • Security Management:
    • Remediate all security vulnerabilities on servers, desktops, and infrastructure devices to meet operational and security standards.
    • Apply Cyber Security (CS) requirements for all systems, ensuring compliance with relevant policies.
  • Remote Management and Monitoring:
    • Provide remote management and monitoring of assets using tools like Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) and Bomgar.
    • Maintain an inventory of desktop, laptop, and server assets, enabling remote control and software/patch deployment.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Create and maintain MECM documentation and plans for deploying customized packages to address operational needs and remediate security vulnerabilities.
    • Develop customized reporting capabilities for enhanced insight into the operational environment.
  • Infrastructure Management:
    • Oversee server, network (wired and wireless), and virtualization environment management and monitoring.
    • Coordinate with functional managers for proactive monitoring and alert notifications of mission-critical assets using MECM and SolarWinds.
  • Enterprise Application Support:
    • Design, implement, and support various enterprise-level applications.
    • Maintain and upgrade WBAMC operating systems, including patching and hardware upgrades.
  • Storage Management:
    • Assist in the design, configuration, testing, implementation, and maintenance of storage arrays.
    • Support enterprise-level technologies such as High Availability (HA) clustering for VMware and Microsoft, CIFS, and NFS shares.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning:
    • Assist in designing, configuring, and maintaining the WBAMC Disaster Site Recovery plan.
  • Database Support:
    • Provide services for evaluation, planning, requirements analysis, design, optimization, testing, implementation, and sustainment of new and existing mission databases.
    • Support database activities including Backup and Recovery, Performance Tuning, Clustering, and Security Hardening, particularly for MS SQL databases.
  • Other duties as assigned.Β 

Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

  • Extensive experience in system administration, particularly with Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022) and various Linux operating systems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting NTFS file shares and managing Distributed File Systems (DFS).
  • Strong knowledge of industry-standard system administration practices and tools.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance requirements for government systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective documentation and stakeholder interaction.
  • IAT Level II certified (Security+, GSEC, etc.).
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Public Trust clearance.

Preferred:

  • Experience with cloud computing environments and virtualization technologies.
  • Background in government or military IT infrastructure management.
  • Knowledge of database management, including MS SQL and associated support processes.
