    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The primary purpose of an Instructional Assistant position is to promote academic and behavioral independence among special need students in the school environment. The Assistant works under the direction of the Special Education Case Manager and assumes responsibility for those portions of the IEP assigned by the Case Manager. Focus is upon structuring the environment to provide a safe learning setting for all students and to implement skill building techniques.
     
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. High school diploma or equivalent.
    2. Obtained an associate’s degree or higher; or meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment the knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and mathematics or the instruction in readiness for these subjects.
    3. Fingerprint-based criminal history verification clearance.
    4. Previous experience with special education students is desirable and/or one year of experience working with students in a classroom setting.
    5. Skill in verbal and written communication and basic math.
    6. Ability to work around and with children.
    7. Valid Oregon Driver License.
    8. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents and staff.
    9. Ability to maintain confidentiality in performing assigned tasks.
    10. May be required to obtain a First Aid Card.
    11. Ability to obtain and maintain OIS and level 1 CPS training and certification.
    12. Ability to work with students without engaging in power struggles.
