Position Summary

GEICO’s Cybersecurity organization has an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Sr. Manager to lead our Cybersecurity Data Protection Engineering team. This individual will play a key role within GEICO’s Cybersecurity Data Security, Protection, and Privacy Engineering team, as a leader developing key workstreams, and objectives to meet our Cyber strategy and objectives.Β 

Position Description

The Sr. Manager – Cybersecurity Data Protection is responsible for leading the organization's efforts to identify, assess, and evaluate potential vulnerabilities and threats to the organization's information systems and sensitive data. This leader will bring industry experience and knowledge to build on to and expand our data discovery, protection and monitoring capabilities. Including, but not limited to regular data risk assessments, recommending controls, and countermeasures to mitigate identified risks, and monitoring the effectiveness of the implemented security measures. This role also acts as an expert and mentor for other data protection Team members and will be involved in continued development and management of key areas of data security and protection program.

Position Responsibilities

As a Sr. Manager, you will:

  • Develop and Implement strategies and initiatives to discovery, protect and monitor sensitive data throughout the data lifecycle. including classification and handling, data access controls, inventory, encryption, and retention.
  • Develop and maintain data security policies, procedures, standards, and ensure that they are followed by the entire organization
  • Lead a team of engineers that will work closely with stakeholders and data owners to enforce data protection policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and lead management of data inventories, data flows, and data sharing controls
  • Drive the design, implementation, and audit for enhanced data access controls, ensuring only authorized access to sensitive data.
  • Co-develop and implement data protection runbook(s) and communication plans to support steady state operations for data management.
  • Lead the validation and verification of data encryption to align with standards and strategies to secure data at rest and in transit
  • Lead incident response efforts related to data breach and work with stakeholders to mitigate impact
  • Lead and conduct regular data risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and threats to the organization's data and information systems
  • Stay abreast of new developments in the field of cybersecurity and ensure that the organization's risk assessment and data security processes are aligned with industry standards and best practices
  • Be an expert and mentor for other data protection engineers in the organization, providing guidance and support on data protection methodologies, techniques, and best practices
  • Manage and supervise the work of others, including reviewing and approving key work product.
  • Represent the organization in external meetings and interactions with clients, stakeholders, and other industry experts

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in a leadership role, managing Cyber professionals
  • Proven experience with data discovery, classification, handling, access, inventory, and retention
  • Proven experience with data protection technologies, such as encryption, tokenization and data loss prevention tools.
  • Familiar with programming languages such as Python, Java, or .Net
  • Experience with designing and implementing data security solutions for enterprise environments
  • Experience with various data stores and technologies (i.e lakes, warehouses, relational, etc.)
  • Experience in managing and supervising other Data Protection Engineers
  • Experience in developing and managing data protection programs focused on data discovery, data inventory, data risk assessments, and encryption for both structured and unstructured data
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Knowledge of data security frameworks, standards, and protocols
  • Solid understanding of data privacy laws and regulations (i.e. NYDFS, PCI-DSS, SOX, GDPR, CCPA)
  • Experience developing and implementing compliance policies and procedures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate with management and other stakeholders
  • Ability to excel in fast-paced, startup-like environment

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with focus on data protection and privacy
  • 4+ years of experience security technologies (DLP, SIEM, Firewalls, etc.)Β 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experienceΒ 
  • One or more of the following cybersecurity certifications are highly desired:
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
    • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
    • Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)

Annual Salary

$130,000.00 - $260,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
