Overview






GovCIO Media & Research is seeking candidates for a driven, self-starting staff writer to cover the topics, issues and key individuals affecting Defense Department technology for distribution across a wide array of the publication's platforms, including web, video, podcasts, live and virtual events, and social media. This position will be located in the Washington DC metro area and will be a fully remote position.









Responsibilities






  • Develop relationships with federal agency leaders and schedule a variety of interviews with these leaders regularly
  • Maintain relationships with key media contacts in the DOD IT space
  • Conceptualize and provide daily media coverage including written articles, video interviews and podcasts
  • Attend, cover and network at industry events and panels
  • Moderate panels and acquire speakers for events and webinars
  • Gather, analyze and report on information about federal contract opportunities or business trends, and use this information to inform editorial work
  • Work across the team to execute various editorial projects β€” including sales, design, and marketing
  • Assist in social media publishing
  • Compile and deploy newsletters








Qualifications






Required Skills and Experience

  • 1 year of previous defense reporting experience, job or internship related.
  • Reporting or journalism experience.
  • Genuine curiosity around unfamiliar or technical subjects.
  • Comfortable interviewing subject matter experts for live and in-person panels and podcasts.
  • Ability to synthesize complex and technical topics to a broader audience.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Technology reporting or interest is a plus.

  • Federal government reporting or interest is a plus.

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an β€œat-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
