The Vice President of Basic Needs is responsible for providing strategic leadership for all aspects of Basic Needs including Food Pantries, Financial Assistance, Shelters and Elder Services. The Vice President of Basic Needs works with employees, management, programs and services within the Catholic Charities of Boston network to ensure delivery of quality programming. The position provides direct supervision of the Director for Shelters, the Director for Food Pantries, and the Program Director for Community Assistance. This role serves on the agency’s leadership team and is responsible for helping to set agency-wide policies and procedures.Â
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working with the Senior Vice President for Programs, develop and implement a strategic plan for Basic Needs.
- In collaboration with the Director for Data and Evaluation, establish appropriate metrics and processes for monitoring, measuring and reporting results on an ongoing basis.
- Create a culture of excellence by recruiting, mentoring and leading a team of highly skilled, dedicated employees.Â
- Oversee all hiring, training and development, supervision, evaluation and termination of staff and monitor volunteer involvement through team leaders within each of the above categories.
- Demonstrate thought leadership, listening, problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills, along with intellectual curiosity to seek continuous improvement and support a positive work environment.
- Convene staff on a regular basis in different sites to facilitate staff meetings for the distribution of information and professional expertise to ensure that services are being provided and integrated in a cohesive manner.
- Oversee programs and services including program development, service delivery, and evaluation while insuring and maintaining Agency standards.
- Set clear performance goals and expectations during biweekly supervisions with direct reports.
- Provide quality assurance and monitor contracts and grant utilization, reporting results to leadership.
- Work cooperatively with other members of the leadership team and staff to ensure coordination of services for clients.
- Meet biweekly with the Senior Vice President for Programs to provide updates on progress with respect to achieving strategic plan goals for the year and other matters.
- Review the monthly financial statements with the Basic Needs business manager and program managers to ensure adherence to budgets. Â
- Meet with the Chief Financial Officer and/or Controller as needed to review fiscal results.
- Oversee the submission of client service and demographic information as  to the data team and review statistical and demographic information.
- Serve as the liaison to the community and a representative of Catholic Charities on issues related to Basic Needs.
- Establish and maintain relationships with advisory boards, community groups, other committees as appropriate, interacting with donors and the Agency Board of Trustees.
- Maintaining and growing key external partnerships including the Greater Boston Food Bank, United Way and future partnerships.
- Oversight of the Thanksgiving Distribution and other special events.

Work is performed in an office setting, in residential programs, food pantries and other locations with regular visits to program sites, and in the community. The ability to work varied hours which may include evening, nights or weekends as necessary to attend events where Catholic Charities presence is needed.

- Local travel to meet with program managers and staff with occasional out-of-state travel as needed.
- Attendance of internal and external meetings and training.

 QUALIFICATIONSÂ
Â
- Graduate degree in Social Services, Education, or related field with 7-10 years of experience in human services or education.
- Minimum of 5 years supervisory or administrative experience with strong leadership skills.
- Advanced knowledge of basic needs assistance, food pantry, shelter systems, and clinical services.
- Strong commitment to the mission of Catholic Charities of Boston.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with staff, donors, volunteers, and partners.
- Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Skilled in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and written communication.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Excel, and use of virtual technologies such as Zoom.
- Ability to set objectives and prioritize to achieve goals.
- Flexibility to work varied hours for events and other duties as needed.
- Independent and team-oriented work style.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle to perform the functions of the position.
